The Central Nervous System
The spine plays a critical protective role for the spinal cord.
The joints between your vertebrae are richly supplied with a network of nerve fibres which sends information back into the central nervous system (your brain and spinal cord) to help co-ordinate your posture, movements, and balance. Because of this close link between your spine and central nervous system, small movement faults in the spine, such as subluxations/SJD, can interfere with the normal function of your nervous system.
This nervous system dysfunction can then cause secondary symptoms in your body, for example headaches, migraines, muscle weakness, sensory deficits such as pins & needles or numbness, and referred pains.
There is strong research evidence in support of the effectiveness of Chiropractic manipulation for the treatment of lower back pain, and moderate research evidence for the treatment of neck pain, whiplash, cervicogenic headaches, migraines, as well as the management of shoulder, hip and knee osteoarthritis.
At Chiropractic Solutions our chiropractors have commonly observed over their many years in clinical practice that other nervous system related conditions such as some forms of dizziness, balance disorders, sciatica, and other referred pains to the legs and arms, may respond well to a trial program of chiropractic adjustments, although these conditions are less supported by high level scientific research.
